Answers to common questions and practical guides for using FaceMatch.

Browser Camera & Mic Permissions

If you cannot see yourself or the other person cannot hear you, the most common reason is that your browser has blocked camera or microphone access. FaceMatch requires both to connect you to a video chat.

  • Check browser permissions. Look for a camera icon in your browser's address bar. Click it to ensure permissions are set to "Allow" for FaceMatch.
  • Close other apps. If another app (like Zoom or Skype) is using your camera, your browser may not be able to access it. Close those apps and refresh the page.
  • Restart your browser. Sometimes the fastest way to clear a hardware glitch is to completely quit your browser and open it again.
  • Check system settings. Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android can block camera access for web browsers at the system level. Check your device's Privacy settings if the browser never shows a permission prompt.

Connection Problems

Video chatting relies on a stable connection. If you are experiencing constant disconnects or "Connecting..." screens that never resolve, try the following:

  • Switch networks. If you are on a public Wi-Fi network (like a school, library, or cafe), they often block peer-to-peer video traffic. Switch to cellular data or a home network.
  • Check VPNs or browser extensions. Some privacy tools can interfere with the WebRTC connection used for video chat. Temporarily pause them only if you trust the network you are using, then retry.
  • Refresh the page. A simple refresh often re-establishes a broken connection path.

Matching

FaceMatch connects you to a random available partner as quickly as possible. Sometimes the matching process can be slower or feel repetitive depending on who is online.

  • Who you match with. You are matched with an available person in the same vibe who fits the preferences you both selected. Shared interests and region can improve a match, but FaceMatch does not sort people by appearance.
  • Wait times. A longer wait usually means fewer compatible people are available for your current vibe and preferences. Broadening your preferences or trying another vibe can help.
  • Repeating partners. If the user base is smaller at a given hour, you may encounter the same person twice. If you do not want to talk to them, just hit Skip.

Blocking & Reporting

We take community safety seriously. You always have the power to protect your own experience and help us protect others.

  • How to skip. The "Skip" button immediately ends the chat. You do not need a reason to use it. If the vibe is off, skip.
  • How to block. Blocking ends the conversation and tells FaceMatch not to pair that browser with the same browser identifier again.
  • How to report. Use the "Report" button if someone breaks our community guidelines. The report ends the chat and records the reason you selected. Several reports in a short period can trigger a temporary matching cooldown.
  • Add context when needed. FaceMatch does not record video or audio. For a serious safety issue, also contact us with the approximate time, nickname, and what happened so the team has enough detail to investigate.

Accounts & Vibe Points

FaceMatch is free to use anonymously, but you can build a reputation over time using our Vibe Points system.

  • Earning points. A partner can award you one point in the conversation's Mingle, Social, or Roast vibe. Only one award per pairing is accepted.
  • Unlocking accounts. Reach 100 points in any vibe, and you unlock the ability to create a registered account. This lets you save your nickname and keep your points across devices.
  • Points and reports. Skips and reports do not subtract vibe points. Safety reports are handled separately from the reputation score.

Privacy & Data Requests

FaceMatch is designed to minimize the information required to start a conversation. We do not record your video or audio.

  • What the service uses. Technical connection information helps run the chat and limit abuse. Vibe points are associated with a browser identifier until you choose to link them to an account.
  • Accounts. If you create one, the authentication provider handles sign-in and FaceMatch stores the profile and reputation information needed for your account.
  • Data requests. Contact us to ask what data is associated with you or to request deletion. We may need information that lets us locate the correct record.
