FaceMatch

Safety & Community Guidelines

FaceMatch only works when everyone feels safe. Here's the standard we all hold.

The basics

FaceMatch connects you face to face with people from all walks of life, often within seconds and often from other parts of the world. That immediacy is what makes it worthwhile, and it is also why a shared standard matters. To keep the community welcoming for everyone, every member agrees to follow the guidelines below. They are not fine print; they are the reason the experience stays pleasant. Serious or repeated breaches can result in being temporarily paused or removed from the platform.

Most of what follows is common sense, but it is worth reading once before your first chat. Knowing where the lines are, and knowing which tools you have if someone crosses them, is the single best thing you can do to have a good time here.

Our community rules

  • Be respectful. Treat everyone the way you'd want to be treated. Kindness goes a long way.
  • Keep it clean. No nudity, sexual content, or sexual behavior on camera. FaceMatch is not an adult platform.
  • No harassment or hate. Bullying, threats, discrimination, and hate speech of any kind are never allowed.
  • No illegal activity. Anything illegal, including content involving minors, is strictly forbidden and will be reported.
  • Respect privacy. Don't record, screenshot, or share anyone else's video or personal details without consent.
  • 18 and over only. You must be an adult to use FaceMatch.

The tools you have in every chat

You are never stuck in a conversation on FaceMatch. Every session gives you a set of controls that work instantly and require no explanation to the other person:

  • Skip. One tap ends the current chat and finds you someone new. If a conversation is not for you, for any reason at all, this is the fastest way out.
  • Mute and camera off. Turn your microphone or camera off at any moment while staying in the chat. Useful when you need a beat, or when you would rather keep talking by text for a while.
  • End the session. Leave FaceMatch entirely with a single tap whenever you are done.
  • Report. Flag someone who breaks the rules. Reports feed directly into moderation and help keep the wider community safe, not just you.

Because you only ever share a nickname, you can use all of these without giving away anything about who you are. Anonymity is the default, and staying anonymous is a perfectly reasonable choice for the entire time you use FaceMatch.

Tips for staying safe

  • Never share personal details like your full name, home or work address, phone number, email, school, or financial information. There is rarely a good reason for a stranger to need any of it.
  • Be cautious of anyone asking for money, gifts, or crypto — pressure to send anything, however sympathetic the story, is one of the clearest warning signs of a scam.
  • Be wary of requests to move the conversation to another app or platform quickly. Scammers often try to pull you somewhere with fewer protections.
  • Trust your instincts. If a conversation feels off, you do not need a reason — hit Skip and move on. That is exactly what the button is for.
  • Remember that people may not be who they claim to be. Photos, ages, locations, and stories can all be invented, so treat unverifiable claims with healthy skepticism.
  • Think about what is visible behind you on camera. Mail with your address, a window with a recognisable view, or a name badge can reveal more than you intend.
  • Keep your browser and device up to date, and be careful with any links a stranger sends you.

If something goes wrong

If someone makes you uncomfortable or breaks these rules, you do not have to sit through it. End the chat immediately by skipping to a new person, then use the report tool or reach our team with as much detail as you can remember: what happened, roughly when, and anything the person said or did that stood out. Specifics genuinely help us act.

We take every report seriously and review them against our guidelines. Depending on what we find, a member may be warned, temporarily paused, or removed from FaceMatch entirely. Content or behavior involving minors, threats of harm, or other illegal activity is treated as an emergency and may be reported to the appropriate authorities. If you believe you or someone else is in immediate danger, please contact your local emergency services first.

A note for parents and younger visitors

FaceMatch is built for adults, and you must be 18 or older to use it. It is not a service for children or teenagers, and it is not moderated as a space for them. If you are a parent or guardian, we encourage you to talk with the young people in your life about who they meet online, to make use of the parental controls built into most devices and browsers, and to keep an open, judgement-free line of conversation so they feel able to tell you if something ever makes them uncomfortable. Organisations that specialise in online child safety publish excellent, practical guidance for families, and they are a good place to start.

Our commitment

We're committed to building an inclusive, respectful community for everyone — including our transgender and non-binary members. These guidelines work alongside our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.
